(Almost) Unkillable Houseplants

We know what it’s like to be guilty of plant murder. The mix of shame, guilt and frustration at money down the drain is hard to get over and can really put you off taking the plunge into plant-ownership for a second time. We also know that finding time to diligently water and care for your houseplants can be a real challenge.

But don’t let your marked history of plant parenting prevent you from having another go. There are loads of plants out there who are low maintenance enough to forgive you for the odd missed watering. At Patch, we believe everyone is capable of developing their green thumbs and the best way to do it is to start with an easy-to-please plant. That's why we've put together this handful of our indoor plants which we like to call 'The Unkillables'.

(Almost) Unkillable Indoor Plants

Susie the snake plant originally heralds from central Africa and, ever since, has gathered a whole host of rich nicknames, including 'Viper's Bowstring hemp', 'Saint George's Sword' and 'Mother-in-law's tongue'. She is truly the beginner's houseplant, but that's not to say she's boring. Her magical benefits include, so say some, being able to help you sleep better.

Like Susie,  the snake plant Zey can improve the quality of air in an indoor space but unlike others, they can also improve human health, as it's recently been found that they can remove carcinogens, such as Benzene, that are often found indoors.

Howard the Aspidistra is the Tony Stark of plants. This cast-iron super-plant is nearly indestructible and can handle reasonable neglect, but what a shame it would be to leave him to gather dust in a dark corner when you could make the most of his impressive form.

We reckon Cassie the Zamioculcas can't work out whether she's a fern, a succulent or, the world's oldest plant, a cycad. But, thankfully, she's taken the best from each and created an excellent candidate for a houseplant. Her upright growth, dark-green colouring, distinctive shape and her tolerance for shade make her perfect for any home.

Our Zamioculcas Raven is the new kid on the houseplant block having only been launched in the summer of 2017. He's closely related to Cassie in nature however his striking black foliage sets him apart from the rest and will be sure to make an impact in your space. Raven is also exceptionally low-maintenance - what's not to love?

Rick the corn plant is an impressive specimen who will, in return for just a little attention, happily show off his elegant leaves. If you're extremely lucky, he will even grow small, white flowers as well and all for minimal effort!
